A Seminar on "Solid Waste Management of Thanjavur Municipality" was held at Besant Lodge, Thanjavur by Clean Thanjavur Club which is co-ordinated by chamber of Industries and Commerce. Thiru. G. Nagapillai, President of Chamber of Industries and Commerce invited the participants of the programme. About 200 members from Lions Club, Leo Club, Rotary Club, JAYEES and Officials from Thanjavur Municipality participated in the programme.
Dr. N. Ramachandran, President, Clean Thanjavur club and Principal, Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women, Vallam presented a lecture on the "Solid Waste Management of Thanjavur Municipality", in which he insisted that every service organization should take active role in this project and to make their campus as a Model clean campus. They should also render help either financially (or) technically to other educational institutions and to make this project a successful one. An advertisement regarding Solid Waste Management of Thanjavur Municipality to be displayed in local T.V. Channels of Thanjavur for making awareness of the public was also shown. It was attracted and welcomed by the participants very much.

Mrs. S. Shanthi, Commissioner of Thanjavur Municipality addressed the participants about the role of Thanjavur Municipality in this project. She congradulated the president of Clean Thanjavur club for taking initiatives and making the public awareness about this project. She also informed that steps are taken effectively for implementation of this project by the municipality. Shortly service tax will be collected from commercial organizations and will be utilized for the project. Sanitary workers will also be given training for the effective management of solid waste.
Mr. T. Manimozhiyan, Headmaster, Veeraraghava Higher Scondary School, Thanjavur spoke on the role of public and their participation in this project.
During discussion, Participants expressed their willingness and cooperation for the successful implementation of the project and also clarified their doubts. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Er. K. Padmanabhan, Hon. Secretary, Chamber of Industries and Commerce.
